Community Culture Summit

What is the Purpose of the Community Culture Summit?

To get community input that will help staff and the Comprehensive Plan Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) update the Plan’s goals and policies that relate to:

  • Education
  • Recreation
  • Arts
  • Library
  • History
  • Civic Engagement

How Will I Be Able to Comment?

The community will have a variety of ways to provide input on the Community Culture goals and policies. All comments will be compiled and given to the Comprehensive Plan CAC for discussion at their December 14 meeting.

At the Summit:

Small Group Discussion:

The primary activity at the November 3 summit will be small group discussions. Tables will be assigned to the six primary Community Culture topics: Education, Recreation, Arts, Library, History, and Civic Engagement. Participants will select discussion tables based on which topic they’d like to discuss, with an opportunity to participate in two discussion sessions. Members of the Comprehensive Plan CAC will facilitate the discussion to get the community’s ideas on key policy questions.

Review & Comment on Goals and Policies:

Participants in the summit will have an opportunity to review the existing Comprehensive Plan goals and policies for Community Culture, and provide their ideas for changes, and goals and policies to keep, remove, or add. This can be done either on posters displayed at the summit, or on individual feedback forms.

Before and After the Summit:

Online, Virtual Open House:

For community members who cannot attend the November 3 summit or who wish to comment from home, a virtual open house will be available from November 1-11 at www.welovelakeoswego.com. The virtual open house will include meeting materials and presentations, and survey questions that mirror the small group discussion questions at the summit.

Public Comment at CAC Meetings:

There is a public comment period at the beginning and end of each Comprehensive Plan CAC meeting.  The CAC will have their first discussion of the Community Culture public feedback, and review the first draft of revised goals and policies at their December 14 meeting.

Public Comment at Planning Commission Meetings:

Once the CAC has reviewed, discussed and revised the draft goals and policies, they will forward a recommendation to the Planning Commission. The Commission will then hold a work session, followed by a public hearing on the Community Culture goals and policies where the public can give testimony on the goals and policies.

Public Comment at City Council Meetings:

The Planning Commission will make a recommendation to the City Council. The City Council will then hold a work session, followed by a public hearing on the Community Culture goals and policies where the public can give testimony on the goals and policies.

You can check the CAC Meeting page to learn when each action area will be discussed.  You can check the upcoming meetings information to find out when the Planning Commission and City Council will hold work/study sessions and public hearings on the Comprehensive Plan.

Via E-mail:

Comments can be submitted at any time by sending an e-mail to welovelo@ci.oswego.or.us. Comments will be forwarded to the CAC for their monthly meetings.
